Benjamin Lazrus was a Jewish Romanian born in 1894 WHO immigrated to the United States
before 1921 and open a watch repair shop at 206 Broadway in New York City
where he made watch cases and bands. By 1922, along with his brother
Lazrus, registered the name Benrus (taken from Benjamin & Lazrus). By 1924, he
relocated to Beekman Street in New York City and listed his company as an importer and
wholesaler. In the mid 1930s, Benrus produced watches withy rectangular and cushion cases. In World War II, they continued to bring Swiss watch movements into the US to build watches & sell them. Some of the most notable of these early 1940's was the calendar watch, a manual wind watch that featured a window in the dial to show the month and a hand indicated date that had the days of the month running around the outside of the dial. The date would advance as you pushed the crown in. In the 1950s Benrus would introduce innovative watches including the Dial-a-rama jump hour watch and the Benrus alarm watch. and the Benrus Bumper Automatic..
