1926: Founded by Jacob Schneider as Wüllimann, Schneider, Nivada.
1940: Launching the brand Croton for the U.S. market.
1976: The son Max Schneider was still running the company, and celebrated the 50th anniversary.
1988: In an advertisement 1887 was mentioned as founding date.

Nivada was created in 1926 in Granges (Grenchen) by Jacob Schneider. 1940 launched Croton Watch Company for the US market. Watches signed Nivada, Croton or carrying the double signature Croton and Nivada Grenchen were in all reality, the same and high quality.

Nivada was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic bumper watches and rustless steel watches in the 1930's and were a leading company in the 1940's and 1950's in the advancement of cases and case styles, AND Chronographs, Chronometers, Water Proof Dive watches and incredible water proof watches that covered a wide veriety of extreme conditions in the 1960's.

In the mid fifties Nivada picked up on an Antarctic rage developed from the International Geophysical Year and a subsequent Exploration Campaign of the South Pole, by developing an awesome extreme c ondition waterproof automatic watch called The Antarctic. And, like Bulova would do later during the space age, gave an Antarctic Watch to each member and crew of the American Navy who participated in the US Deep Freeze 1 Expedition in 1955-1956.

The Antarctic Watch was built to resist extreme conditions. The watches worn by the US Navy personal and others who participated in the exploration were exposed to every extreme one could imagine. From 30 plus below to hot temperatrures, from dry conditions to wet, yet non failed.

This fact would propell Nivada, The Antarctic and many other styles and types, to a run that lasted until 1876 when the quartz watch killed the Nivada6.
